Frequently Asked Questions About Community Shred Events

Below are the most common questions we receive regarding community paper shredding events:

What are community shredding events?

A TrueShred community shredding event is a local meetup where we raise awareness about identity theft and fraud, specifically focusing on access to sensitive documents. We remind community members of the need to securely destroy personal documents that are no longer in use to avert any risks. Most importantly, we give community members the opportunity to have their documents professionally destroyed and recycled.

When is the next shredding event near me?

A TrueShred shredding event is coming near you in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., every second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come and have the best day out learning about document shredding best practices as you mingle with your community members and members of our staff.

What can I bring?

You can bring any financial documents, including bank documents, canceled checks and tax records. You may also bring legal documents, legal documents, address books, addressed mail and medical records. Whatever sensitive information you may want to destroy, we help you do that effectively.

What is the cost of shredding documents at the event?

Our community paper shredding events are affordable. We charge $10 per box for medium-sized boxes — these should be 10” x 12” x 15” boxes or regular letter-size Bankers Boxes.

What must I not include in my document box?

Avoid anything that could harm the shredding machine — metals or plastics, batteries, electronics, glass, syringes, cans, hanging folders and office supplies such as staple removers and hole punchers.

How much material can I bring for shredding?

You may bring as much material as you like, there is no limit for a shredding event. If you have more material, you may want to schedule an on-site mobile shredding service. We’ll send a bin to your place, where you can fill bins with your material and wait for a scheduled visit to have it shredded.

What will you do with the paper once it is shredded?

We’ll prepare destroyed documents for recycling, so you can expect the shreds to be used in processes like the manufacture of bathroom tissue or paper towels.

How does your normal shredding program work?

For one-time on-site services, TrueShred delivers secure containers to your location where you can deposit confidential documents and materials for shredding. Our highly trained team will arrive on the scheduled day to shred all the materials in your bin in our mobile shredding trucks on the curbside. Once we’re done, we’ll issue a Certificate of Destruction. Contact TrueShred today for a full review of all our other processes including off-site shredding.

Will I get help removing my materials from my vehicle?

Yes, our team helps you get your material put of your vehicle and put it in the mobile shredding trucks. You can help the process run faster by placing the items to be shredded in your trunk in boxes or bags for easy removal.
